Join us for the 10 Most Endangered Places in Mississippi 2023 Announcement Event!
On Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 p.m., the Mississippi Heritage Trust will announce the 14th list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Places in Mississippi
Since the Mississippi Heritage Trust published the first list of the 10 Most Endangered in 1999, there have been some tremendous victories. The King Edward Hotel in Jackson, Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula, Amzie Moore House in Cleveland, L.Q.C. Lamar House in Oxford and Threefoot Building in Meridian are all “graduates” of the list and provide inspiration for communities around the state that are still looking for preservation solutions for threatened sites.
This year's honorary chairperson is noted preservationist Al Hollingsworth. A lifelong champion for historic preservation, Al is a founding member of the Mississippi Heritage Trust and has fought for the preservation of historic Church Street in Port Gibson since its listing as one of Mississippi's 10 Most Endangered Historic Places in 2009
Mississippi Heritage Trust is proud to announce that these talented artists will be creating works of art depicting the 2023 10 Most sites which will be auctioned at the event. This year's artists are Gary Bass, Church Goin Mule, Charlie Buckley, Anthony DiFatta, Coulter Fussell, Sabrina Howard, Curtis Jaunsen, Ellen Langford, Ron Lindsey, Ann Madden and Wyatt Waters
MHT hosted a photography competition related to past 10 Most sites and this year's winner was Ben Hillyer, whose photo of Oakland Cemetery in Lorman was chosen in a combination of public vote and by our competition judge, noted Delta-based photography Rory Doyle. The wining photograph will be part of our silent art auction and limited edition prints will be available for purchase.
This member's of this year's 10 Most jury include Odie Avery, Gary Bass, James Bridgforth, Sarah Johnson, Dan Lee, Michael Morris, Jeff Rosenberg and John Spann.
Come join us on October 19th for delicious food, frosty cocktails, soulful tunes and great conversations with people who share your passion to save and renew the places that tell the story of Mississippi.
