On Thursday, October 21st at 6:00 p.m., the Mississippi Heritage Trust will announce the 13th list of the 10 Most Endangered Historic Places in Mississippi. Since the Mississippi Heritage Trust published the first list of the 10 Most Endangered in 1999, there have been some tremendous victories. The King Edward Hotel in Jackson, Round Island Lighthouse in Pascagoula, Amzie Moore House in Cleveland, L.Q.C. Lamar House in Oxford and Threefoot Building in Meridian are all “graduates” of the list and provide inspiration for communities around the state that are still looking for preservation solutions for threatened sites.
This year’s 10 Most announcement will be held at The Faulkner in downtown Jackson, which was recently beautifully restored. Noted preservationist Dr. Alferdteen Harrison will be our honorary chairperson. In addition to a lifetime of championing the preservation of historic places like Ayer Hall at Jackson State University, Dr. Harrison is leading the charge to save the Scott Ford Houses, which were listed as endangered in 2017.
10 Most Jury
After receiving dozens of nominations, this year's jury of noted preservationists met to choose this year's list of ten endangered historic places.
